Spinal Alignment Techniques

Central to our chiropractic care are spinal adjustments, where our specialized chiropractic team employs precise and controlled movements to mobilize the spine. By correcting misalignments or biomechanics, and alleviating pressure on the nervous system, these adjustments can often provide immediate relief, depending on your specific condition.

Dr. Katrina Parsley, DC
Doctor of chiropractic
BSc. Kinesiology, BSc. Human Biology

I believe that you deserve care that is personal, honest, and that actually works.

My goal is simple: help you feel better quickly, help you understand what is going on, collaborate on ways to avoid aggravating triggers, and give you the tools to help prevent future flare-ups!

Before attending chiropractic school, I worked as a kinesiologist and personal trainer. This experience in exercise rehabilitation shapes my treatment approach. In addition to the manual therapies I provide during sessions, a successful treatment plan must also include appropriate stretching and strengthening of key body areas to improve overall mobility and biomechanics in order to create lasting change.

Katrina is highly professional and very skilled at identifying the root causes of problems and addressing them effectively. After two months treatments, my pain has improved significantly. She had taught me many exercises that I can do at home and carefully corrects my gesture and breathing. She had also provided me with many practical ways to relieve pain in my daily life and at work, and each method has been very effective. I am truly grateful for all her help

FAQ

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
No, you do not need a referral to see a chiropractor in British Columbia. You can book an appointment directly online or by contacting our clinic. Chiropractors are primary healthcare providers trained to assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including back pain, neck pain, headaches, sports injuries, and joint-related concerns.
Yes. Chiropractic care is generally considered a safe treatment option for many musculoskeletal conditions when provided by a licensed professional. Chiropractors undergo extensive university-level training to assess patients, identify appropriate treatment options, and screen for situations where treatment may not be suitable.

Like any healthcare intervention, all treatment options carry potential risks and benefits, which your chiropractor will discuss with you before beginning care. Treatment plans are individualized and may include manual therapy, soft tissue techniques, shockwave therapy, exercise rehabilitation, and education.

Most extended health insurance plans include coverage for chiropractic treatment. Coverage amounts and annual limits vary depending on your specific plan, so we recommend checking with your insurance provider for details.

Our clinic can direct bill many insurance providers, and depending on your coverage, your insurer may cover a portion or all of your treatment costs.

If you are seeking custom orthotics, some insurance providers have specific requirements regarding coverage and prescriptions. Coverage requirements can vary significantly between plans, so we recommend confirming these details with your insurer before your appointment.

If you have questions about your coverage, our team is happy to help point you in the right direction.

Yes. If you’ve been injured in a motor vehicle accident in British Columbia, ICBC typically provides coverage for chiropractic treatment as part of your recovery. Early assessment and treatment can help address pain, stiffness, reduced mobility, headaches, and other symptoms that commonly occur after a collision.

Seeking care as soon as possible after an accident can help support your recovery and ensure you understand the treatment options available through ICBC. When possible, it is best to reach out within the first 12 weeks after your accident date. Our team can help guide you through the process and answer any questions about your ICBC-approved care.
Yes. Research supports that chiropractic care can be a safe and effective option for managing many common pregnancy-related aches and pains, including low back pain, pelvic discomfort, hip pain, sciatica-like symptoms, and postural strain. Treatment is modified to accommodate each stage of pregnancy and may include gentle manual therapy, soft tissue techniques, exercise recommendations, and education to help you stay comfortable and active throughout your pregnancy.

Pregnancy places unique demands on the body, and many individuals experience increased strain on the low back, pelvis, hips, upper back, and neck as their pregnancy progresses. Following birth, prolonged feeding positions, carrying your child, and repetitive lifting can also contribute to discomfort.

Treatment is tailored to your stage of pregnancy or postpartum recovery and focuses on helping you move more comfortably and confidently through these transitions.
No. Chiropractors are trained to assess and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions affecting the entire body. In addition to neck and back pain, chiropractic care may help with issues involving the shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, elbows, wrists, jaw, and surrounding muscles and joints.

Chiropractors commonly help manage both acute injuries, such as sprains, strains, sports injuries, and whiplash, as well as persistent conditions including tendon injuries, osteoarthritis, headaches, dizziness, postural issues (like text neck), and chronic joint or muscle pain.

Treatment focuses on improving movement, reducing pain, supporting recovery from injury, and helping patients return to the activities and hobbies they enjoy.

Absolutely. While spinal or joint manipulation is one tool chiropractors may use, it is not required for treatment. Some patients prefer alternative approaches, or may not be ideal candidates for joint adjustments, so treatment can be tailored to your comfort level and what is most appropriate for your care.

Depending on your needs, treatment may include soft tissue therapy, rehabilitation exercises, mobility work, education, taping, instrument-assisted techniques, shockwave therapy, or other evidence-informed treatment options. Your treatment plan is always based on your goals, preferences, and clinical needs.

Both chiropractors and physiotherapists are highly trained healthcare professionals who help people recover from injuries, reduce pain, and improve movement. In many cases, the two professions use similar evidence-informed approaches, mobilizationercise prescription, education, and hands-on treatment.

The main difference is often the treatment approach. Chiropractors typically focus on optimising joint mobility, movement patterns, and neuromusculoskeletal function through a combination of hands-on therapies such as joint mobilizations and soft tissue treatment, as well as exercise rehabilitation, and patient education. Physiotherapists, generally, may place a greater emphasis on exercise-based rehabilitation, movement retraining, and functional recovery following surgery or injury.

Physiotherapists and chiropractors frequently work together, and many patients benefit from a collaborative approach that combines the strengths of both professions. The most appropriate provider often depends on your goals, preferences, and individual condition.

If you’re unsure which type of care is right for you, our team can help guide you toward the most appropriate practitioner for your needs.
Your first appointment begins with a thorough conversation about your symptoms, health history, goals, and any previous injuries or treatments. This is followed by a physical examination, which may include assessing your posture, movement, strength, flexibility, neurological function, and any areas of discomfort.

Once the assessment is complete, your chiropractor will explain their findings, discuss a diagnosis or clinical impression, and review the treatment options that may be appropriate for your situation. If treatment is indicated and you are comfortable proceeding, care may begin during the same appointment.

Our goal is to ensure you understand what is contributing to your symptoms, what treatment options are available, and what steps can help you return to the activities that matter most to you.

The popping or cracking sound that may occur during an adjustment is known as a cavitation. It is a normal sound that can occur when a joint moves and a small gas cavity is created within the joint space. Similar sounds can happen when cracking your knuckles.

The sound itself is not an indication of treatment effectiveness, and some chiropractic techniques do not produce any audible popping at all. The goal of treatment is not to create a sound, but rather to help improve movement, reduce pain, and support healthy joint and muscle function.
