Shockwave Therapy in North Vancouver
Explore shockwave therapy at our Lonsdale clinic for persistent tendon and soft-tissue concerns. An assessment helps determine whether it belongs in your rehabilitation plan.
What is shockwave therapy?
Shockwave therapy applies mechanical pressure waves through the skin using a handheld device. It may be considered for certain persistent conditions, including plantar heel pain and Achilles tendon pain, after assessment.
One part of your recovery plan
Your clinician will consider your symptoms, health history, and previous treatment. Shockwave may be combined with exercise and changes to activity. It is not suitable for every condition, and results vary.
What to expect at your appointment
Assess the painful area
Discuss how long symptoms have been present and which activities make them better or worse.
Discuss treatment
If appropriate, your clinician will explain the procedure, alternatives, and risks. Gel and a handheld applicator are used over the treatment area.
Review activity and follow-up
Ask about activity after treatment and how progress will be reviewed. Your clinician will recommend a plan based on your response.
Shockwave Therapy FAQs
Does shockwave therapy use electricity?
The waves delivered to the treatment area are mechanical pressure waves, rather than an electrical current.
Is shockwave therapy uncomfortable?
Treatment can be uncomfortable, and temporary soreness or bruising may occur. Tell your clinician how it feels so treatment can be adjusted.
How many shockwave appointments will I need?
Your clinician will discuss a proposed course after assessment and review it as you respond. A fixed number of visits or a particular result cannot be guaranteed.
