There is no single number of physiotherapy sessions that suits everyone. Your physiotherapist recommends appointments after assessing your symptoms, movement and goals, then reviews the plan as you respond to treatment. An estimate should help you plan your time and budget without promising a recovery date.

At Easy Allied Health, we start with what you want to get back to doing. That might be walking more comfortably, managing the demands of work or moving with greater confidence after an injury. The useful question is not just how many visits you will need, but what those visits are intended to help you achieve.

What your first assessment tells you

Your first appointment includes a conversation about your symptoms and health history, followed by an assessment. Your physiotherapist explains the findings and discusses treatment options. Our physiotherapy service combines assessment, hands-on treatment, exercise and practical education, with the plan adapted as your movement and goals change.

Before leaving, ask what the initial plan involves, how often appointments are recommended and when your progress will be reviewed. You can also ask which activities to work on between appointments and how to tell whether the plan needs adjusting.

These questions give you something more useful than a fixed session count: a reason for each appointment and a way to review what comes next.

How long does physiotherapy take to work?

There is no single timeline that applies to everyone. Your assessment, goals and response to treatment help your physiotherapist explain what to look for and when to review progress. A change in symptoms and a return to a demanding daily activity are different measures, so ask what progress means for your particular plan.

Raise questions about your progress at follow-ups rather than relying on a promised number of days or visits.

Why the number can change

Two people booking for the same area of pain may have different difficulties and different goals. Returning to a particular work task may involve a different plan from managing discomfort during everyday activities. Your response to treatment also matters.

Easy Allied Health's appointment guidance explains that recommended visits can change with your goals and response to treatment. A plan made at the first assessment is therefore a starting point. At follow-ups, discuss what has changed, what is still difficult and whether the current approach is helping.

If you have exercises to do at home, ask your physiotherapist to explain them clearly. Tell them if you cannot fit them into your day, do not understand an instruction or find an activity difficult. That gives your practitioner information to use when reviewing the plan.

Measure progress against daily activities

Ask which changes your physiotherapist will use to assess progress. Choose activities that matter to you so that the conversation stays practical.

You might discuss whether getting out of a chair is easier, whether you can manage a work task more comfortably or whether a movement that was restricted has changed. These are examples of discussion points, not promises about what treatment will achieve. Your practitioner can help identify appropriate goals following the assessment.

If progress differs from the initial expectation, ask whether the goals, treatment or appointment schedule should change. You do not need to wait until the end of a planned series of visits to raise a concern.

Discuss the cost before committing to follow-ups

The published clinic rate is $100 for an initial 30-minute physiotherapy assessment and treatment, and $98 for a subsequent 30-minute treatment. Confirm the applicable fee when booking; these are clinic rates, not a quote for an in-home visit.

Insurance coverage and clinical recommendations are separate questions. Ask your insurer about your remaining physiotherapy benefits and any referral requirement, then discuss your budget with the clinic. Direct billing is available for many extended health plans, and you remain responsible for amounts your plan does not cover.

If Coquitlam is convenient, physiotherapy in Coquitlam is available at Sunwood Square. Ask about the assessment and follow-up schedule that fits your needs.

Physiotherapy appointment questions

Can my physiotherapist promise a fixed number of sessions?

An initial recommendation is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Discuss when your plan will be reviewed and how your response to treatment may change the schedule.

What if I am not improving as expected?

Tell your physiotherapist what has changed and what remains difficult. Ask whether the treatment, goals or appointment schedule should be reviewed.

Does my insurance allowance determine my treatment plan?

Your benefits limit and clinical recommendations are separate. Check your remaining coverage, then discuss appointment costs and your budget with the team.

What should I ask at my first assessment?

Ask what the findings mean, what each appointment is intended to address and when progress will be reviewed. Request clear instructions for any activities recommended between visits.
