Some extended health plans include massage therapy benefits, but coverage depends on your plan and the practitioner providing treatment. Before booking, confirm your massage therapy benefit, any referral requirement and the amount you would need to pay yourself.

At Easy Allied Health, registered massage therapy includes assessment and treatment tailored to the areas affecting your comfort and movement. Your RMT discusses your needs and preferences, including treatment pressure. Insurance eligibility should be checked for that specific service and provider.

Check the practitioner and the benefit category

A massage appointment is not automatically an eligible insurance expense. Ask your insurer which practitioner credentials it recognizes and whether the provider you plan to see meets its requirements.

Pacific Blue Cross, for example, explains that covered practitioner services require appropriate registration and that a provider's registration number must be included on claims. Its guidance also advises checking registration for the particular treatment being provided. Your own plan's terms still determine your coverage.

When checking your benefits, ask whether massage has its own annual allowance or shares a limit with other services. Confirm the remaining balance, the amount payable per appointment and any referral requirement before treatment.

Compare benefits with the appointment you are booking

Appointment length affects Easy Allied Health's published RMT fee. The current rates across its clinics are:

  • Initial assessment and treatment, 60 minutes: $140 plus tax.
  • Subsequent treatment, 30 minutes: $88 plus tax.
  • Subsequent treatment, 45 minutes: $119 plus tax.
  • Subsequent treatment, 60 minutes: $140 plus tax.

Confirm the rate and applicable tax when booking. A plan that includes massage therapy may still reimburse only part of the appointment cost. Check the actual amount payable rather than assuming that an available annual balance covers the full fee.

If you are looking locally, our registered massage therapy in Coquitlam page identifies the Sunwood Square option and its practitioners. Check the appointment type before comparing the fee with your benefits.

How direct billing works

Easy Allied Health can direct bill many extended health plans. Bring your insurer name, policy or group number and member ID, and ask the clinic whether direct billing is supported for your appointment.

You remain responsible for the amount your plan does not cover. If you have two plans, the clinic can bill your primary plan where supported; ask the second insurer how to submit any remaining eligible expense yourself.

MSP supplementary benefits are limited

MSP massage therapy coverage is available to eligible supplementary benefits beneficiaries. The province lists a $23 contribution per visit and a combined annual limit of ten visits across specified services, including massage, physiotherapy and acupuncture. This is not ten visits for each service or full payment of a massage appointment. Confirm eligibility and provider participation.

Massage after a motor vehicle crash

ICBC lists 12 pre-approved registered massage therapy treatments during the first 12 weeks after a crash. Have your claim number ready and confirm your appointment arrangements with the clinic. Confirm how that initial coverage period applies to your claim.

Easy Allied Health's ICBC billing information states that RMT patients pay a remaining user fee of $12 plus tax at the appointment. Ask the clinic to confirm that fee for your claim and booking; do not assume the visit has no patient cost.

Massage therapy insurance questions

Is massage therapy covered by insurance in BC?

Some extended health plans include it. Check the eligible practitioner credentials, benefit balance and any referral requirement under your own plan.

Can Easy Allied Health bill both of my insurance plans?

The clinic can bill a primary plan where supported. Ask your secondary insurer how to submit any remaining eligible expense yourself.

Is every massage appointment eligible for reimbursement?

No. Eligibility depends on the practitioner, service and your plan's terms. Confirm these details before comparing your benefits with the appointment fee.

What should I bring for direct billing?

Have your insurer name, policy or group number and member ID ready. Confirm that direct billing is supported for your plan and appointment.
