Acupuncture FAQ

Does Acupuncture Hurt?
Acupuncture is minimally invasive since it does require the insertion of tiny needles into the skin. Most people, however, report feeling very little or no discomfort. It is usually an enjoyable experience that people look forward to, and many people even fall asleep during the treatment.
Before you begin anything, your practitioner will discuss your health history and what you hope to get out of your session. We will perform some general physical examinations to check your health. We will then work with you to develop a plan specific to your condition. Your practitioner will then allow you to relax on a table or bed and place needles on the acupoints that correlate with your specific ailments. The needles are typically left in your skin between 5 and 30 minutes. Patients leave feeling relaxed and de-stressed
The quickness and strength of positive results vary from person to person. It depends entirely on what area you are addressing, how severe your pain or problem is, how your body responds to the needles, and your overall general health. Many of our patients see results with just a few sessions, especially for acute problems. Chronic and long-term ailments may take multiple treatments for a few months before people start to feel the results. However, the majority of patients see results after a few sessions, and some report seeing positive change immediately.
Acupuncture is a very safe practice and is very hard to overuse. If you have a severe or excruciating ailment, then getting treated every day may be the best option for you. However, with most patients, that is not necessary and is simply overkill. To get the most out of your sessions, you want to space them out according to your practitioner’s recommendations and leave time in between each session for your body to reap the benefits.
